Weekend in review....

...even though it isn't completely over yet.
For the past few days we've been doing a bit of "sleep training" with K.  I use quotation marks because I'm not really sure that is a good definition for what we are doing.  We have been extremely blessed with two wonderful sleepers.  M was great from the beginning, sleeping through the night at 8 weeks.  In fact, the very first night she slept through the night was the night before I returned back to work full-time.  What a good girl!  K was a little more questionable in the beginning.  He did fine during the day with naps but at night would only sleep if we were holding him.  We spent several weeks taking turns sleeping in the chair, while the other one slept on the couch.  It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't all that comfortable either.  At one point, it had been several weeks since the last time I slept laying down.  We finally figured out that he was a tummy-sleeper...and against several objections from other people, we let him sleep on his tummy.  He's been sleeping like a pro since.  We lay hm down wide-awake and he falls asleep on his own and sleeps all night long.
That was until recently when he decided that waking up at 4:30 am would be fun.  Because he shares a room with M I always went in and got him right away.  But I am no longer a morning person (coming from someone who used to start work at 5:30 a.m. every morning) so we had to come up with a new plan.  We moved M into our room, temporarily, and are letting him stay in his bed when he wakes at 4:30, and he always goes back to sleep.  So now we are just waiting for him to break that bad habit, then M will go back to her room.

Friday night we stayed up to watch the final show with Conan O'Brien.  I've never really been into late night shows that much but I really like Conan and Letterman themselves.  Jay Leno has always been "OK" but he completely lost any respect I had for him with the comment he made about David Letterman, when all three hosts were bantering back and forth in good fun.

Yesterday we didn't do too much, we rented some movies, did a little shopping, and that's about it!  I got the fabric to start working on M's quilt.  Yay, one more project for me to start and not finish!

Today Jason and I are going to a movie.  Seems like ages since we've been to a movie in the theater.  We were debating between Extraordinary Measures and Sherlock Holmes.  Both look really good but the first is a real tear-jerker and personally I would rather watch that type of movie at home.  So Sherlock Holmes it is!  After the movie we are going to watch some football! Since our team didn't make it to the final playoff game....go Vikings!!

Kids say the.....craziest things

Ever since M could talk she has always had a very "adult" vocabulary.  I don't mean that she swears like a sailor, I mean that the words she uses are words you don't typically hear from a 3 or 4 year old.  Thankfully there is really only one time I can remember when she used a "bad" word and it really wasn't that bad.  She was at my mom's, mixing some batter.  Apparently she could get it to do what she wanted and she pounded her fist on the counter and yelled "dammit dammit dammit."  It was actually quite funny, I think she was about 3 at the time.  She really doesn't know the REALLY bad words.  Her idea of a bad word is stupid and ass.  If you say either of those words around her, she will stop what she is doing and lecture you.  But you can drop all the f-bombs you want around her and she has no clue.
When her brother was a little baby, I remember her telling me "mommy, isn't he just so precious?"  And just yesterday when it was too warm in the house, she told me that it was "sweltering."  She cracks me up.  Not that long ago we were in the car and her dad was driving, he apparently went around a corner too fast for her liking and she yelled "hold on to your cheese and pickles!!"  Jason and I laughed so hard we were crying, I still have no idea where she got that from. Probably SpongeBob.  He's the reason she says "oh barnacles" and "oh tarter sauce" when she's frustrated.
Anyway, the point of this post was to talk about a conversation that we had in the car this week.  I have NO CLUE what the heck she was talking about.  I mentioned that I was going to turn K's carseat around to forward-facing soon.  After explaining to her why babies have their seats backwards, we had this conversation:

Mommy, you can't do that!!
Why?
Because he doesn't have enough quarters for that.
Ummm....What???
He doesn't have enough quarters.  You know, like I have more quarters then Ian (her friend who's only a few months younger) because I'm older then him.  I have more quarters then him. And K doesn't have enough.

Am I the only one that doesn't get this??  My only thought was that she was talking about their height and she was referring to quarters of an inch.  But honestly I don't know when she's ever heard anyone talk about quarters of an inch.  Who knows.  She also told me that in her Bible Club class last night that they made signs.  When we asked her what her group's sign said she said that she thought it said "watch out for cars and God."  Something tells me that this is not really what the sign said.  But it is kind of funny to think about.

Celebrity look-alike

If you've met my son, you know that he ALWAYS smiles.  He has always been this way since he first learned how to smile.  He also has some of the silliest faces I have ever seen.  He is a pro at the fake laugh, the fake cry, and the fake cough.  Just recently he has learned a lot of new "talents."  Walking behind a toy, sipping from a straw, doing a"touch down," and blowing kisses are the most recent additions to his list of skills.
But onto the point of my post.  K makes this crazy face that I cannot describe, so here's the picture...

Anyone see the celebrity resemblance yet?  Of course you can because you've already glanced down at the next picture. Busted!

For many months now, Jason has been telling me that he is a spitting image of Angus T. Jones (Jake from "Two and a Half Men") when he does this look.  I never really saw it until I Googled a picture of Angus and put them side-by-side:

What do you think?

Blah

don't know if it's the weather or what but I have just felt very "blah" lately.  Maybe it's from the rush of the holidays being over, who knows.  I talked to my doctor about it and of course the first thing they do is put you on some "happy pills."  I took Celexa after I had Alexandria.  I took it for 4 months and gained 30 pounds, and that is why I stopped taking.  I probably wasn't ready to stop but gaining 30 pounds doesn't exactly make you feel happy either.  My doctor chuckled and said "these pills don't make you gain weight, they dont' have any calories in them."  After I laughed back at him he said "they only mess with the part of your brain that tells you when you're full."  So in essence he just told me that the pills make you eat more...but they don't make you gain weight!  Good thing I pay this guy lots of money.  Anyway, I did decide to go back on them for a little while to see if they help and this time around they have made me have a decreased appetite.  Weird.  They also make me want to sleep.  All. Day. Long.  I am sure that will wear off as I get used to them, but I don't intend to take them for more then a couple months.  I don't want to rely on a $4/month prescription for the rest of my life.  Besides, it creeps me out that a pill can mess with my brain.  The first time I took them I could actually "hear" electric sounds in my brain.  I know that sounds crazy but I did.  It did work though.  And I bet some people are wondering why I'm even talking about this, since most people would not publicly announce that they are on "happy pills" but I'm willing to bet a good portion of the world is on them right now and can relate! More then most people realize anyway. Besides, there are only about 2 of you reading this! :)

and just for laughs, a cute LOL Cat
