Jason introduced me to a new video game this month and I have to say it is one of the most exciting games I've ever played. It's called Heavy Rain for the Playstation 3. If you have a PS3, I highly encourage you to rent this game, or at least download the demo. Remember when you were younger and read the "choose your own adventure" books?? That's how this game works. You control what your characters do (you play multiple people throughout the game) and what you do or say decides how the game is played out. You are trying to solve the case of a killer.....so right there should tell you that it is not for kids. It has language, fighting (nothing too graphic) and just a little bit of nudity. It's a game to play after the kids go to bed, but it's so worth it. Jason and I have both played it, and while it ultimately ends up the same way with the same killer revealed, we got there in different ways. There are some scenes where you have to act really quickly to save your life, or someone else's...but the cool part is that if you get yourself killed, the story still goes on with the other characters. And that also changes the way the game is played. You can play it multiple times and discover new scenes. There were times that we were on the edge of our seats, and when it was over I felt like we had just watched a movie, not played a game.
You are in control of most everything the character does...and when your character is stressed, you feel it. Your controls are harder to hit, the control rumbles, and it becomes harder just to walk. Plus, if you like getting PS3 trophies, this game has a ton of them for various scenarios, so you have to play the game multiple times to get all of them.
There are parts of the game that can be emotionally draining though...you are trying to save a child after all. There are some intense scenes, but that's what makes it so great. You actually feel like you are there and you feel what your character is feeling. If you have a PS3, do yourself a favor and check this game out!
(I tried posting a video trailer but then realized that some idiot posted comments under the video saying who the killer is. Some people just really know how to ruin the fun for other people.)
